The people behind ELIA in Valencia.

The Universitat Politècnica de València team brings together business organisation, innovation and eco-innovation, data analysis, European project management and food technology. Most members belong to InnoEcoLab, UPV's Circular Economy and Industrial Symbiosis Innovation Lab.

Ángel Peiró Signes

Full Professor · Business Organisation

Role in ELIA: Project lead at UPV

Industrial, Industrial Organisation and Materials Engineer, MBA and PhD in Business Administration. His research focuses on eco-innovation and social innovation, particularly in tourism, and he is an expert in quantitative analysis; he has worked with Eurostat on indicators for industrial ecosystems. Before his academic career he worked in operations management in the food industry (Bonduelle, Unilever). He has been a visiting scholar at Cornell and Bath, directs the Master's in Business, Product and Service Management and co-directs InnoEcoLab.

María del Val (Marival) Segarra Oña

Full Professor · Business Organisation

Role in ELIA: Project lead at UPV

Industrial Engineer, Industrial Organisation Engineer and PhD in Business Management, with three six-year research periods and one for knowledge transfer. A specialist in innovation, eco-innovation and business competitiveness, she has been a visiting scholar at the universities of Bath and Cornell. She was principal investigator of the Innoecotur project on the circular economy in Valencian tourism and UPV Vice-Rector for Academic Planning, Quality, Accreditation and Languages (2021–2025). She co-directs InnoEcoLab.

María de Miguel Molina

Full Professor · Business Organisation

Role in ELIA: Researcher

Law graduate and PhD in Business Administration, with two six-year research periods and one for knowledge transfer. She has taken part in 28 research projects, including the H2020 project AiRT as co-principal investigator, and currently works on Innoecotur and Music360 (Horizon Europe). Her research focuses on public strategy, policies for the cultural and creative industries and people-based services. She has been a visiting researcher at Roehampton, UC Berkeley, Lakehead and IESE.

Blanca de Miguel Molina

Full Professor · Business Organisation

Role in ELIA: Researcher

Graduate in Economics and Business (UV), PhD in Business Administration (UPV) and MBA from Anglia Ruskin University, with two six-year research periods. An expert in business model design, user-needs analysis, design thinking and service design. She managed a family business and has taken part in and coordinated local, national and international projects; she currently works on Innoecotur and Music360 (Horizon Europe).

Óscar Trull Domínguez

Associate Lecturer · UPV

Role in ELIA: Researcher

Industrial Engineer with a Master's in Data Analysis, Decision Making and Process Improvement and a PhD in Statistics and Operations Research, with one six-year research period. He combines teaching at UPV with his work as a teacher for the Valencian Department of Education. His career in project management and research includes GEC-Alsthom (Alstom), the Water Technology Institute and Faurecia. He has authored articles, books and training materials on data analysis.

Carlos Alfonso García Meseguer

R&D manager · IIAMA, UPV

Role in ELIA: Project management

Industrial Engineer specialising in business organisation and the environment. He is responsible for knowledge valorisation and technology transfer and manages research projects at UPV's Research Institute of Water and Environmental Engineering (IIAMA), with experience in cooperation programmes such as TEMPUS, Erasmus+, H2020 and FP7. He has worked with the regional government on managing and evaluating R&D calls and is completing a PhD on the circular economy and innovation policy.

Edgar Pérez Esteve

Associate Professor · Food Technology

Role in ELIA: Food science & technology coordinator

Graduate in Human Nutrition and in Food Science and Technology, with a PhD in Food Science, Technology and Management. A researcher at the University Institute of Food Engineering (FoodUPV), he works on innovative food processing, quality control and the nutritional value of food, with more than a hundred scientific articles. Born in Enguera, a traditional olive-growing area, he devotes part of his research to adding value to local crops such as olive and carob.
